The military strategy wasn't exactly clear for this battle. There was a lot of fighting that occurred within the streets of Fredericksburg and it was fairly apparent that General Burnside's orders to attack the Stone Wall repeatedly failed miserably. General Robert E. Lee held onto the ground he had already claimed and fought for more in order to claim Fredericksburg as a victory.
